Talking is Overrated

In Uncategorized on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 9:52 am

The following needs to be read in a “whisper voice”.

Because that’s how it was written.  See?  Today I had no voice.  None.  I can only whisper. The changing seasons got me again.

Here are some things I’ve noticed today about whispering and having no voice.

  • If you whisper, people get very quiet.
  • If you whisper, people get closer to hear you.
  • If you whisper, people whisper back to you!  (even the cashier at 7-11)haha
  • Men don’t mind long periods of silence (in fact, I think my guys are rather enjoying this!)
  • It is slightly difficult to teach new math concepts with no voice
  • It’s next to impossible to talk on the phone (NEXT to impossible, but not IMpossible)
  • A lot of things don’t need saying at all….hmmmm

Well, I’ve noticed these things…but I don’t necessarily enjoy them.  I’m looking forward to being able to talk again.  Hope my men enjoyed it for a bit 🙂

When your kids are extra loud have you ever tried whispering?

Do you ever lose your voice?  Have any tricks for getting it back?

  1. Would you believe I, Cindy Beall, had to go on a vocal rest when I was 18 years old due to nodes?

    Yep. Very difficult.

That’s it. Nothing dynamic in getting it back. Did have to learn to sing again.

  2. Oh, and the kicker is that it was for 6 weeks.

  3. I lose my voice at least twice/year. I do the usual things…try not talking (never works which is why I probably don’t get my voice back quickly), drinking hot liquids, etc. Amy Grant swears by Lays Original Chips, though. She eats them EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. she records because the oil helps her voice. So, she eats them when she starts losing her voice, too.

I DO whisper often to my daycare children! It’s a great way to get them quiet!

  4. I like the Lay’s potato chips suggestion! When we lived in Reno every october for about a week I would lose my voice. It was so strange. Nothing helped. It would just go away one day.

Please come visit my blog. I have named you one of my Honest Blogs!

  5. LOL! Very funny! I’ve lost my voice a couple of times, it is at these times I realized how much I “yell” at my children to get them to listen. Not good. Did you just lose your voice or are you also not feeling well? Hope everything returns to normal quickly. 😉

  6. whiskey and honey. works every time.

i’m just kiddin’. i can’t drink whiskey. but i keep telling myself that chardonnay is good for me.

  7. Warm liquids, not too hot. REST!

I’m sorry you lost your voice! It’s so COLD outside!

  8. I wondered why I didn’t talk to you all day yesterday! That’s a record! I’ll come down in a lil bit. Maybe I’ll bring some whiskey. 😉

  9. That was pretty funny trying to talk to you on the phone…

  10. I’m sure there are a few people in my house that would love for me to be exposed to whatever has taken your voice…
